The following provides common abbreviations found throughout the LawCAB site.

BSB - Bar Standards Board

CAB - Central Applications Board

CILEx - Chartered Institute of Legal Executives

COLP - Compliance officer for legal practice

CPE - Common Professional Examination
(professional qualification, like a law conversion/GDL, for those with a non-law degree wanting, as the original route to the LPC or for those wanting to do Bar training)

CPQ - CILEX Professional Qualification

CGQ - CILEX Graduate Qualification

ELD - Exempting Law Degree
(combines academic and vocational stage training)

GDL - Graduate Diploma in Law
(also known as the CPE - the academic award for the law conversion course for those with a degree wanting to prepare for the Legal Practice Course or Bar Training Course (also suitable for those seeking to qualify as a solicitor through SQE, or for training as a CILEX Lawyer, Costs Lawyer etc)

FILEx - Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives

LPC - Legal Practice Course

PGDL - Postgraduate Diploma in Law a new style of law conversion/GDL course that is more tailored towards the SQE assessments, while also meeting the Bar Standards Board’s academic requirements before commencing the vocational stage of training

PRT - Period of Recognised Training under the LPC route to qualification

PSC - Professional Skills Course

SRA - Solicitors Regulation Authority

SQE - Solicitors Qualifying Examination

QLD - Qualifying Law Degree
(a law degree validated by SRA and BSB for Bar training or LPC)

QWE - Qualifying Work Experience under the SQE route to qualification
